NFL/Backup Bucs reporter for Tampa Bay Times

    This is a full-time position helping cover the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the Times and its web site, tampabay.com.
    Responsibilities: include game coverage, breaking news, enterprise projects, investigative reporting, news features and a variety of social media duties (including blogs, Twitter, Facebook, podcasts and video). Applicants should:
    *Have at least five years experience as a sports journalist with a background in professional or major college beat reporting.
    *Have a proven track record of breaking news on the local and national level.
    *Be extremely organized and able to juggle numerous responsibilities simultaneously.
    *Be able to quickly and accurately satisfy insatiable reader demand for on-line content, including instant and insightful news and analysis.
    *Be able to develop a close and collaborative working relationship with our veteran beat reporter, Rick Stroud, as well as with our columnists, assigning editors, copy desk and other staff.
    *Be able to recognize and develop enterprise ideas.
    *Be energetic and self-motivated, requiring minimal direction.

    ESPN recently hired beat writers for all 32 teams, I believe. Could be a reason.

    Well, more like 19. And this opening is because the former writer went from newspaper to newspaper. And the latter newspaper opening was created because of ESPN, yes.
