I have no problem with the commissioner saying something on the Bart Scott comment because I think that crossed the line into threat territory, but all the other stuff is not only harmless, it's sometimes needed. You've got dozens of players involved in a violent game who should be allowed to blow off steam from time to time. Now I'm not a huge fan of the trash talking, but on a certain level, I get it. There may be something to the Patriots' recent big-game woes as far as the negative consequences of being wound too tight. I can remember as a kid all the talk about how Dick Vermeil had the Eagles so freaked out about before Super Bowl XV that it was inevitable the underdog Raiders, who made the most of a trip to New Orleans, would dominate them. I think a lot of the Jets' effectiveness the last two weeks stems from the coach allowing the players to be loose going into games against two teams known for their regimented style. Of course, it's a fine line. The players need to focus on all the game day details as the week progresses, but if you never let them have a little fun — which, for some, means talking trash — I think the pucker factor comes into play a lot more when the game begins. And back to my earlier comment about the game's violence, you can't constantly treat the players like Catholic school third-graders every minute of every day when the next game might be their last.

Here's a league facing a multi-BILLION dollar loss for both sides in a labor dispute, and the Commissioner is worried about trash talk. Goodell has done nothing in his tenure to strike me as much more than a puppet and distraction for the easily distracted. Bowie Kuhn had more substance as a leader.

Schefter reporting McDaniels is the new OC for the Rams, and Cable the new offensive line coach in Seattle.

I hope McDaniels gets thrown off the fucking arch. I hope his dwarf dick gets nibbled on by fish.

I'm always right because I never commit to anything. My only stance is that "football is freaking complicated and anything can happen."

My apologies. I thought you were going off a detailed pie chart you meticulously put together between masturbation sessions to Japanese robot porn. :D
