It will be. If Raleigh, Charlotte and Myrtle Beach are targeted, no way McClatchy will let The State get away without a few hits.

I always get so confused. Isn't local, local, local supposed to save us all from doom?

And it's nice of them to point out that everyone who gets a buyout offer has been deemed surplus goods, beyond even the norm for such things.

They've been frozen for some time, and they've cut nearly all their freelance usage (save for some help w/ USC baseball).
Cuts seem to be the next step. I'm crossing my fingers. Lot of friends at that place.

The State lost two sports guys a couple of years ago and never replaced them. They even advertised one of those jobs (maybe both), but the SE has not been allowed to hire. I know their hiring freeze predates the McClatchy takeover of Knight-Ridder, which was, what, two years ago?

Nor did they replace Kent Babb, who left in December.
Not that Joe Person needs any more praise from me -- I've long believed him to be one of the best in the SEC -- but his abilities on the USC football beat give that paper some serious leeway.
