Can you design interesting and inviting pages for sports, news and features? Can you spot grammatical and AP style errors? Can you write creative headlines on deadline? If your answer is “yes,” we want to talk with you.

The Ledger-Enquirer, a McClatchy-owned news and information company in Columbus, Ga., is looking for a copy editor/page designer to join its universal copy desk. We’re looking for someone who can design and edit multiple sections of the newspaper, with an emphasis in sports.

Our copy desk is a part of other McClatchy newspapers in the Southeast, using SaxoPress and InDesign. We need someone who has the ability to learn new work processes and works well on deadline.

Experience is a bonus; ideally, we’re looking for someone who is working at a smaller newspaper and is looking to move up or recent college grads who have top-notch internship experience. Skills in InDesign and Photoshop are required.

Columbus is a growing city that’s a 90-minute drive from downtown Atlanta. It is home to Fort Benning, one of the largest army installations in the United States, and is a business center with headquarters for major corporations such as Aflac Insurance, Synovus and TSYS (one of the world’s largest credit card processors). There’s plenty to write about, and the newspaper takes great pride in its enterprise reporting efforts.

McClatchy is the nation's third-largest newspaper group. It emphasizes high journalistic standards and embraces an array of new strategies for serving online readers. Other McClatchy papers include The Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, the (Fort Worth) Star-Telegram, The Kansas City Star, The Charlotte Observer and The (Raleigh) News & Observer.

Interested? Email a one-page cover letter, resume (with three professional references) and at least five work samples in .pdf format to Kara Edgerson, copy desk chief, at Ledgercopy@gmail.com.
