We have an opening for a full-time night-side apprentice multiplatform editor. This staff member will copy edit stories, write headlines and cutlines, proof pages, do some light design work and post stories to our website. It’s anticipated that the majority of the time this editor will be working with the night production staff, moving copy for the A, Metro, Sports, Business and Features sections on deadline.

While this is a two-year position, successful candidates must exhibit the potential to develop into a regular staff member because that is a possibility. Apprentices may be hired as regular employees during or at the conclusion of their apprenticeship. This editor will make $36,730 in their first year and $42,749 in their second year.

    QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a talented, developing writer or editor who has solid news judgment and copy editing skills. We want an editor with a knack for writing headlines, cutlines and copy blocks that will entice readers into our stories. Must be hungry to learn, have strong fundamentals in production and be able to work quickly and calmly in the face of deadline pressure. Must have a flexible approach to work and display strong collaboration and communication skills.

Please note: Our apprentice program is primarily geared toward developing journalists with diverse backgrounds and experiences who are in the beginning stages of their journalism career.
