While newspaper still need to produce breaking news, retrospective pieces also draw readers in, especially well-done ones. What is your beef with the series, Rudy?

Oh, newspapers will be around for a while.

I really don't see parents laying down a layer of farily-expensive iPads whenever their children want to finger paint.

Don't think he has one ... likes to sit back without expressing a point of view. Kinda like the "ha ha" kid on The Simpsons.

I'm moving next week and wrapping all of my wife's grandmother's china in Kindles.

If the newspaper industry's survival is dependent upon people moving, kids water painting, or any other post-read use, then the industry is indeed soon to be extinct.

Meanwhile, I cringe when I read this in the story about the first victim:

"The group confronted Carlin during his graveyard shift at a Santa Ana gas station on June 2, 1970. "

The irony of this, of course, is that this story will get good numbers on the Web.

The Internet is replacing newspapers -- maybe we'll address that vagueness another time -- because stories like this run in newspapers.

The story is on the Internet.

    What will replace the Internet?
