just as mrs. shockey and i are freaked and angry that i came aboard 13 years ago, when i was told by the guy who hired me that the ledger "prints money" and would most assuredly be one of the last papers left standing when the biz went down the tubes. my days of going on strike at a n.y. tab were over!

i bought it all and it was all true for about seven years. annuals raises, great bennies, xmas bonuses.... now we're totally frealed for ourselves an the future of our children.

Shockey, you know I feel for you and all my friends in Newark. Had lunch with a few guys the other day and we were wondering what the hell has happened there.
As one S-L "retiree" put it "My son in law laughs at me when I tell him it used to seem like the Newhouses were priting money instead of newspapers, there was so much to go around."

Back then, the Ledger was one of the best golden shower places to be. But Jersey has been hit hard by this (recession, depresssion) and to be honest, the Ledger wasn't prepared of a fall in the economy.
