    I've seen schools get fired up over chess teams and quiz bowl.

    Any time you set up any situation where one group can say "we're better than you," somebody is going to do it.

    Can't link from my BB, but Red Lion, also feature in the article, got sold to another church and is de-emphasizing football. This is the school with the QB who got a USC scholarship offer as an eighth-grader.
