I'm off the hook, as my girlfriend is spending the evening with her young daughter and I'm not expected to come up with some grand plan involving the nightlife in Cowshitistan. I'll be at home, which is fine. Probably drinking tea and working on a personal writing project. After the Thanksgiving-Christmas cycle, rich food, alcohol and revelry actually sound like bad ideas.

New Year's Eve fellates poisonous salamanders in a dank pit of hell. It's even worse than Valentine's. Valentine's can at least be fun if one has a romantic partner. New Year's sucks in any context.

I'm off, but I have NO idea what to do with myself. I'm not really interested in going out to a bar anymore, and most everybody else I know will be at work.

I might do a marathon of movies and go see Changeling, Slumdog Millionaire and Milk.

I'm driving out to a friend's house in Connecticut, will spend hours laughing and having fun and then drive home hoping not to get hit by some drunk drive who doesn't know about limits.

I want to see New Year's Eve in church, thanking God for bringing me through another year.
Then, I'll go out and celebrate.
