New hip's not too bad

Had surgery Wednesday morning for a total left hip replacement. I was home by 2 p.m. this afternoon.

I had avascular necrosis, a cutoff of blood to the hip joint. It's what finished Bo Jackson's career.

Upon waking up in the recovery room, I had stinging pain from the incision site (only about 6"). But I also noticed that the knee pain which had floored me for the past six months was absolutely gone. No metal in the joint. It's entirely plastic and ceramic, and there's a good chance it'll last me the rest of my life.

I believe after I get through rehab, I'm going to have a dramatic upswing in my quality of health.`

I hope that it heals quickly and is better than ever.

I fear a knee replacement is in my future.

Did you have it done by the Amish? I hear that they are crafting beautiful ceramic hips.

Q: What do I do with my offensive genius when I have no offensive talent?

That got a big ol' laugh around here.

So what you're saying is you are just like Bo Jackson?

So you'll be able to kick ass with both legs soon?

Toughest thing, and it's going to be very tough, is that I cannot cross my legs. I cross my legs, I run the risk of dislocating the hip.

Thank god my wife's been around to bark at me when she sees me slipping.

Just had a rough three hours up in bed, but I moved down to the laptop/TV and popped a percocet. I'm quickly seeing that's where I'll be spending most of my time.
