John was fucked up? Ho hum. That happens to a lot of really creative people, especially when they have worldwide fame and incredible wealth by the time they're 24.

Sadly, I deal with it every day. But I keep on trucking best I can.

I think about the great rock and rollers of the 50s and 60s who died "young" and wonder what they'd be doing today. It pains me to think of Lennon playing Indian casinos, Elvis doing informercials for juicers and greatest hits albums, Buddy Holly appearing on a reality show as a judge, Jim Morrison playing county fairs, Janis Joplin hosting a radio show on Sirius. Jimi Hendrix selling a learn-to-play-guitar tutorial.

Oddly, all those ideas make me giddy, and a bit upset that I'll never get to see it.

I think Elvis would be a nutrisystem spokesperson or maybe Jenny Craig.

Wendy O Williams doing Bowflex commercials.

  8. "Imagine" alone is better than the combination of everything McCartney has done since the Beatles broke up.

I'll take George in the solo Beatles rankings. He consistently put out really good records. "Gone Troppo" is an overlooked masterpiece. But Ringo's "Beacoup of Blues" is my favorite solo Beatles record.
Yoko had a couple of really good solo records as well.
1971's "Fly" is a great raw psych blues record and 1985's "Starpeace" is a great disco/new wave raveup.

I didn't realize Ringo was responsible for that college marching band staple "Hey Baby..." (don't know if that's a point in his favor or not)
