New Black Leadership: Geoffrey Canada

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by jason_whitlock, Apr 24, 2007.

  1. A leader stepped up tonight on Anderson Cooper 360... The same guy that did the 60 Minutes story with Cooper.

Canada was passionate, accurate and articulate. I hope he gets a lot of TV coverage from here on out.

Geoffrey Canada? Did he give up a career in porn?

I never heard of this guy, but his resume is impressive: http://www.hcz.org/about/canada.html

  4. This guy went to Bowdoin?
You couldn't get further from the South Bronx with a Saturn-5.
Impressive resume, JW. You're right there. He's one of a couple thousand heroes like this around the country, I reckon.
He's been around a while, though. Here's something from Mr. Google from 1995.

I'm not familiar with that name, but if its the guy they were interviewing on the 60 minutes piece then I agree, he was quite impressive.

Bowdoin is not the stereotypical rich kid school. It's a school that really advocates for and fosters its minority student community and it also encourages volunteerism among its student body.

Canada's got quite the resume, and there is another grad, Hanley Denning (who is Anglo), who created a program called Safe Passage, an educational and advocacy program for children who live in the Guatemala City Dump. I'd put her and Geoffrey Canada in the same category.

Props to Whitlock on the find, btw.
