I listened to a bit of the Stanford @ USC game on satellite last night on my way home. USC's pbp guy is very good.

In that scenario, Oklahoma is more likely to get into the championship game than Boise State and probably more likely than the Alabama-LSU loser.

Boise State's strength of schedule is only going to get worse the rest of the way because of the conference it plays in. Stanford passed them this week. If Oklahoma wins out, it no doubt will as well. Boise State's only chance of getting into the championship game is Alabama-LSU being a blowout and both Stanford and Oklahoma losing.

We might have reached the point where the best-case scenario (if you're all for whatever causes the most drama) would be Boise finishing No. 1 in the AP and coaches' polls.

    1. LSU -- beats Bama, loses to Arky or in the SECCG
    2. Bama -- loses to LSU
    3. OkState -- loses to Oklahoma
    4. Stanford -- loses to Oregon

Granted, it's a lot. And it assumed nobody moves in front of Boise. But it would be pretty wild to see the nation's "No. 1 team" NOT in the BCS title game.

They will play in a BCS bowl and Paterno will retire ... going out on top like only a few coaches have ever been able to do.
This is the perfect storm for PSU to finish strong and for Paterno to retire.
Every fan I talked to at a local sports bar here in San Antonio that hosts watch-parties for various alumni units (and PSU has about 20 that show up each week for their games) has said they love him but are ready for him to retire.
Good thing he's getting to go out on top, and the program can re-establish itself with a re-tooled command center.
