I'd have loved to have seen them try to enforce that.

$16/day times -- just guessing -- about 100 reporters = $1600 into the NCAA's wallet. Then do that times four days -- two practice days, two game days -- and you have $6400. Cost of installing and running it? Probably about $200. Any paper that doesn't give its traveling writers air cards is a poorly run paper.

I asked for one the other day because one thing I cover we only have dialup and it logs me out about every 10 minutes. I was told we had one that was available to be signed out, and the odds of me getting it were slim.

I work at a big paper.

    I'm flabbergasted.

    That's BS.

Our place has handed them out to just about every beat writer, and some that probably don't even need them.

As far as I can tell, they're paying $60 a month for each card, too.

    They are AWESOME

Well I think some people get them assigned. Apparently I, working for one of the few departments that still travels and covering one of the few beats that involves weekly road trips, didn't qualify.

    You should kill your bosses.

That doesn't go through them. It's all the IT department's doing.

You should kill the IT department.

I have a good relationship with the two guys who are responsible for doling out the equipment...I think that always helps.

I'm pretty unlikeable in general, so they're probably just lying and handing out the air cards like they're candy to everyone else.

Someone should have posted a "go fuck yourself" on top of the sign.

Thank God my team sucks so I never have to go to the NCAAs.
