Thank goodness Lee Fowler finally showed a spine.

This is the only reason losing to East Carolina is somewhat bearable ... I get the feeling Chuck would have been granted another year for pulling off that incredible feat.

Norm Chow would be a fun hire, and David Cutcliffe would also work. Maybe it's time someone gave Steve Kragthorpe at Tulsa a courtesy call.

That would be a good hire, but I doubt State will have the guts. People will bitch and whine about option football being boring and how you can get good recruits, but whatever. If the guy can win with kids who need a 1350 on their SATs just to get into school (and no special exceptions for football players), imagine what he could do with kids scoring 750 or whatever it takes to get into State with the football program greasing the admissions department.

You know who should hire Paul Johnson though? Duke. They have nothing to lose frankly, and he could win six or seven games there consistently, and probably occasionally win 9 games once every five years.

I wonder if Johnson will be hurt by the steroids inquiry at the Naval Academy right now. Otherwise, he would have to be on a lot of lists.

I think Navy is a better football job than Duke. Is that crazy?

It might be. But it's still a heck of a lot easier to recruit at Duke than it is at Navy.

If a recruit wants to go to Duke, he has to:

    1. Be in the top 10 to 15 percent of his class
    2. Score somewhere around 1450 on your SATs (or get the admissions dept to pull some strings).
    3. Be willing to play for the worst FB program in the ACC.

If a recruit wants to go to Navy, he has to:

    1. Score around 1500 on the SATs. (No strings pulled by admissions either.)
    2. Be in the top two percent of his high school class.
    3. Get nominated by a congressman or the vice president. (Can't get into school without one.)
    4. Be willing to serve five years in the military after graduation.
    5. Be willing to die for his country.
    6. Agree not to have sex with female midshipmen. (Will get you throw out of school.)
    7. Get up every day around 5:30 a.m.

If I were a coach, and I was confident in my abilities, I take the Duke job over the Navy job in a heartbeat.

Good coach and good guy, at least the few times I've dealt with him.

At Duke you have to play against ACC teams all year. Navy can win 8-9 games each season playing Rice, Stanford, Army, Air Force, etc.

And at Navy, you have to be willing to lose to Notre Dame every year.
