A minimal choice. Watch EXACTLY online (assuming it works, which it doesn't). If you're off by two minutes, you're out of luck. No chance to watch on your 55-inch screen on DVR or on a two-minute delay. Or 30-minute delay. Or any-minute delay. Nope. It's live or eight-hour delay, we at NBC decide that for you. Again, F that noise.

If live was so great, why didn't more people buy the Triplecast in 1992? You could watch any of maybe 11-14 sports start to finish live. Nothing was embargoed for NBC prime time.

If people had bought it, they'd still be offering it.

I must say I am shocked, shocked, shocked that NBC is going 10-5 p.m. WEEKDAYS. That's what cable is for, for Pete's sake.

I wouldn't have a problem with the tape delay aspect of the games if other countries were all in on it too. But that's not the case. Somewhere in an East Bumblefuck Australia home a 55-inch television is showing the swimming events live in high definition at some absurd hour. Meanwhile in America, we're treated like idiots who have to have everything edited nicely to fit our consumer ideals.

So, let's see. What's on TV tomorrow.....

6 a.m. CT: The Today show, live from London, with Al Roker talking with John Orozco. Or live competition on NBCSN, MSNBC and Bravo.

9 a.m. CT: Live competition coverage on NBC and all the above.

5 p.m. CT: Local news, with Little Miss Hottie anchor chick live from London or USA Basketball on NBCSN

5:30 p.m. CT: NBC Nightly News, with Brian Williams, live from.... take a guess

6 p.m. CT: Local news, with Little Miss Hottie anchor chick attempting to walk a balance beam

7 p.m. CT: NBC Primetime broadcast, swimming, diving, gymnastics

11 p.m. CT: Late local news with Little Miss Hottie anchor chick bleary eyed from a London pub where it's 5 a.m.

11:30 p.m. CT: The Tonight Show with Mary Carillo from London

    1 a.m.: NBC Primetime replay

6 a.m. CT: Rinse and repeat

That's about as close to 24-hour Olympic coverage as we've ever gotten (or want to get to)

The late local news on my NBC affiliate led with the first five stories being about violent crime taking place today.

The station had each story on their website.

Each story had a place for viewers to post comments.

I posted "Things like this wouldn't happen if people had been inside watching the Olympics."

The hours aren't nearly as absurd in a place like Australia. And sports TV options in the US for major sporting events are generally much, much better than the rest of the world.

And remember, many other countries -- like England, for example -- have the games on public television. The broadcasting structure in other countries is entirely different from the US.

How many viewers are willing to pay a TV license fee or favor PBS getting the rights? It's not zero, but it wouldn't be far from it.

I think they do the commentary as it happens.

For those who have watched the streaming online.... who does the audio?

There isn't commentary. It's a clean feed except for whatever graphics Olympics Broadcasting Services uses.

No audio? How do you know the story that the swimmer in lane 6 from Turkministan is the bastard son of the exiled prince whose mother overcame a life-threatening illness in childbirth?
