    • Job Description
The N.B.A. is having a moment. By many measures it's resonating more than ever in the United States. And, more than any other pro sports league in the country, it has found huge audiences around the globe. Its best players are social media powerhouses.

We're looking for someone to contribute to our coverage of this league in a distinctive way. Rather than the fleeting, 9-second scoop on who's trading whom that has become all the rage, we want deep, incisive reporting on fresh topics. Take our readers into the front offices and locker rooms and agencies to profile influential people and identify important issues before anyone else has noticed them.

Why is the N.B.A. ascendant, and what are its frailties as its stacks of money grow taller and taller?

We're hoping to find a big-picture chronicler of the league.

      This is a guild position.

Marc Stein, who was one of ESPN's most prominent NBA reporters before the summer layoffs, will be taking this job.

Good for him. From what I understand, he got screwed when Woj was brought on board. I love the Times sports section. They continue to do important work in features that you don't see elsewhere.

Mixed signals on your first point. Bryan Curtis of The Ringer said when he first asked around after the layoffs, people at ESPN were convinced it was a circumstance of Woj's arrival, only to back off that later. They do not have a good relationship, but they are both represented by CAA.

They used to work at the same shop, too, no? Sacramento or Fresno? I can't recall which.

Marc did work for the Sacramento Bee earlier in his career. Not sure if Woj came up through there.

Woj was in Fresno before heading to The Record.
