Actually, it IS about baby mamas, because the whole thing changes when players start missing paychecks.

    The year, 1962:

Reporter to oil baron H.L. Hunt: "Your son Lamar is losing a million bucks a year on his football team."

H.L. Hunt: "Weeeelllll doggies, at that rate he'll only be able to hold out for 250 years."

The WNBA is continuing as scheduled.

Personally I don't care about the NBA. Never watch it. Could barely name a dozen players. Can't tell you who won the title 3 years ago.

That being said, there are sports journalists out there whose livelihoods depend on it, so I'd like to see it come back for their sake.

True. And Stern went for that heartstring yesterday when he apologized to the thousands who depend on the NBA for their livelihood.

Don't bet on that. I bet if the lockout lasts more than about a month, the NBA pulls the plug on all its remaining support of the WNBA and folds the tent, just to show the damage done by those mean nasty greedy players.

    Just another hostage.

    More hostages.

"Won't anybody think of the poor concesssion workers, etc etc etc who will be hurt by this lockout?"

Sure, Dave. If your heart bleeds so much for them, go ahead and lift the lockout.

As the lockout has shown, NBA owners have proven for the last 30 years that the only way to prevent them from offering bad players too much money is to prevent them from signing ANY players.

Also the wider story of American business in the 21st century. Sort of stark when it's laid out this way, isn't it?

Jeff MacGregor's take on the lock-out. More parallels to the larger economic situation.

Because between the lines of all this basketball madness is just another example of the nitwit superrich expecting their employees and/or the government and/or the general public to bail them out.

Save us from ourselves! they cry. Save us from our cartoon greed and our lurid excesses!

These credit derivatives are a win-win-win right down the line!

These credit default swaps are in no way a ticking time bomb!

This Eddy Curry contract will never blow up in my face!

    Never!
