Wish I could remember the women's coach who said this:

"We call it man-to-man. Person-to-person sounds like a phone call."

I just had basically the same conversation with a TV guy that the OP had with the radio jock. We are basically fringe for that station's coverage area and as long as all of our teams were middling at best, they didn't care too much. But oh look, suddenly one of our teams is in the state rankings and the TV guy wants to know if he can call us on a Friday night at 10 p.m. to ask about scores. After I spent five minutes telling him to follow me on Twitter because I live tweet in games and tweet scores whenever they come up, he felt that might not be enough. Finally I just told him to call the school and ask for the AD.

In SC there's a couple message boards, Palmetto Football Talk and SCPrepTalk that people use. I used to be a statistician for my high school team and I called in scores every week.

The last year I did it, there were two call-in shows. One was a statewide show that aired on about 20 stations, and another was a local show only airing on one station. The statewide show usually just wanted the score, while the local show wanted a little more background. I also used to call the three local TV stations and give scores.

In our market, they cover as many as 20 games or more on a Friday night and except for the top game, they are almost never at a full game. This worked until this year, when the SC network stopped doing the statewide scoreboard show. Now, a bunch of local stations had to scramble to put scoreboard shows on after their HS coverage.

People also use Twitter now for scores. All the TV stations here have hashtags they use on Friday nights.

In our area the reporters are very good at tweeting on going game action. Even better
some schools use mobile app that provides live stats / score. Obviously you need someone to input information but it's pretty slick.

Even has play by play. An enterprising DJ could harken back to the days of
Ronald Reagan looking at ticker tape and doing play by play.

Next week, I expect people to email him Ontonagan, Kingsford and Engadine...

    "THANK YOU!!!
    Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
The new coverage is MUCH better! By halftime, I was sitting on top of almost
all the scores I needed to keep everyone happy.
Thanks! Your efforts are appreciated. :) "

    We did nothingdifferent.

Ontonagan is where a Yooper wears his hat! (Only Yoopers and those associated will laugh at that probably, but it was there, teed up, I had to swing.)

Once had a female copy editor in the newsroom ask me why an A1 teaz about the local NHL team couldn't say "defenseperson." I told her when a woman made it to the NHL we'd do exactly that.

I doubt that social media shaming would work, since he is apparently unaware that it exists.

I'd call him on a Friday night with updates and say something along the lines of "You're so damn lazy and your owner is so cheap he can't hire any one to cover football," Our newspaper, and read a ten second commercial ... is helping keep your deserving informed ....

The new radio guy wants me to be the halftime guest at each home high school game (I can't go on the road anymore due to staffing issues) to talk about what I think of the game and Saturday's junior college game. Sure, why not? That's another free ad on the radio. And that's less exposure for the weekly competition, whose alleged sports reporter doesn't stay around to talk to coaches after the game and takes photos from the press box.
