Just came over Twitter from Rafael Rojas, who covers the Rockies. Wilson Ramos kidnapped at his home in Venezuela.

This is the event every Latin American ballplayer feared would happen.

I sort of do, yet part of me also doesn't understand why any player would ever go back home to Venezuela as soon as he has even a few dollars.

Some of the younger guys go back to play winter ball (Ramos' team is tweeting about this in espanol).

Surprised this never happened before. So scary.

It kind of has before. Ugueth Urbina (former closer/reliever for Phillies and Tigers) had a family member kidnapped and held for ransom. Think it was his mother, but can't remember for sure.

Urbina is now in prison (also forget the reason).

    It was Urbina's mother.

He's in prison for attacking a guy with a machete and dousing him in gasoline (attempted murder).

It happened to another player too. I think he was from Colombia. Those guys are vulnerable to crap like this.

Surprised this didn't get more run in the past 48 hours, but he's reportedly safe.

Just got the Washington Post news alert that Ramos has been rescued! Great news. If I get a link, I'll post it.
