Don't have time to look for original thread this a.m., but Pipeline delivered this:

I am pleased to announce 2007 Jim Davy Award winner Larry Taft as The Tennessean's new sports editor, a role he has dreamed of filling since he was a teenager.

Larry has been assistant sports editor in charge of high schools for the last two years but his history at this newspaper goes back much further. He began working at The Tennessean in 1977, left for a brief stint with the state high school athletic association in 1997 and returned to 1100 Broadway in 1998.

Larry, a multiple TIP most valuable player honoree, brings a wealth of sports knowledge and organizational skills to the job. And he has a genuine passion for The Tennessean, our readers and the state of Tennessee.

Please join me in congratulating Larry on his well-earned promotion to his dream job.
