  1. So profoundly stupid, there are no words.

If North Korea launched a missile at a U.S. city, rest assured public opinion would be 99.9999997% in favor of instantaneous, overwhelming retaliation.

You can call it stupid all you want. That's exactly what would happen.

Sure, for about a year. Then it would turn into, "The US is just so mean."

Serious question. How do you drop the shitload of nukes on North Korea they would so richly deserve if they pulled that stunt, yet leave South Korea and China unaffected?

You don't. You hope China, in particular, would have the great good sense, if Kim Jong appears ready to do something really stupid, to go in and obliterate him themselves.

But China would understand, if NK did in fact launch a nuke at the US, that NK simply has to be wiped off the earth.

Because if NK fires a nuke at the US and there are no overwhelming consequences, who will they threaten next with nukes to get what they want? China, of course.

  8. OK, then I'll call it stupid. Because I remember the overwhelming support that Fredo got for his attack on Afghanistan. The response to a NK missile attack on US soil would make that look like the abortion debate in terms of unanimity. Of course, within a year, we'd stop retaliating against NK and probably attack Finland or some place.

We'd be done retaliating against NK within 45 minutes.

Yeah, real close to Hawaii, in fact, this missile traveled a "few hundred kilometers."

TOKYO (Reuters) - A North Korean missile launched on Wednesday was aimed at an area of the ocean close to Hawaii, a Japanese newspaper reported on Friday.
Experts estimated the Taepodong-2 ballistic missile to have a range of up to 6,000 km, putting Alaska within its reach. Wednesday's launch apparently failed shortly after take-off and the missile landed in the sea between the Korean peninsula and Japan, a few hundred kilometres from the launch pad.

I don't think anybody in Hawaii has to worry.
