    This afternoon:

"Uh, yeah. Um, could you give me the football schedule for this weekend?"

"Well, you know ... it's April."

    "Huh?"

"It's April. So you're not looking for the NFL or the SEC. So what are you looking for? NFL Europe? Maybe the local indoor team?"

"Yeah's that it. The indoor team."

    "Sorry, they're off this week."

    "Oh, okay. Thanks."

That was you? Damn, after I hung up, it occurred to me that the dude at the newspaper set me up just to be mean ...

It was a she ... and I thought it was going to be one of those calls where I needed to dial 911 because she seemed on the verge of passing out.

I got a call on Tuesday from a woman looking for the Tennessee (I think) Mega Million lottery numbers from Saturday. Apparently they weren't in the paper and now, three days, later she was dying to know if she'd won $100 million, or whatever the prize was.

Her best comment: "Those lottery numbers are the only reason I subscribe to the paper."

My response: "Well, isn't there a number you can call to get them?"

Her: "Yeah, but it costs 50 cents each time you call."

I guess I should be happy she's subscribing, but I almost want to pay her to stop.

You know if you be sweet to her, she might remember you when she wins...
