More private schools. More charters. Cuts to public school funding.

Not right away. Not right away. Bake it in 3-4-5 years. That's my prediction. Not my moral feeling about it. My prediction. I just want to be clear what I think will happen, not what I want to happen.

I think that was coming anyway. It’s been the push for several years.

The Alabama business and some of the discussion before and since speak to a big problem that the pandemic has exposed: even for the conservatives who aren't trying to actively dismantle public education (see DeVos, Betsy), they have largely succeeded in defining it in a "customer" model. I have a right to bitch if my son or daughter is taught that sex is not evil because I, by virtue of my investment of tax dollars or just the presence of my child, am a customer of the service that the school is providing and therefore the school is beholden to my opinion, and if I do not like it I can take my child (and the funding dollars that are inexorably tied to his or her presence) to another district or out of the public school system entirely. Virtual schooling provides these "customers" with a product they believe is inherently and intentionally inferior, so to hell with the safety of the staff, normal service must be resumed.

What an odd topic on which to build your argument. It's really beside the point at this particular moment, too.

Thanks for all the research and translation you were doing, Rick. I truly appreciated it.

We'll be around when you decide to surface or peek in. Stay well.
