My mom died yesterday. I hadn’t seen her since mid-February because no one wanted me to travel from Florida to Minnesota and then be around her. I knew it was unlikely I see her again. I take some comfort that her dementia kept her from understanding how long it had been since my visit.

When I called one brother to tell him, I learned he was quarantining because of a COVID exposure. He can’t go to the house. Then I’m told my sister can’t go because she and her daughter are positive. Oh, and my sister is at the ER because she was having difficulty breathing and they are concerned about blood clots.

We had a zoom meeting with the rabbi last night. My sister was sent home but she could barely talk because she has covid pneumonia (although no sign of clots and her daughter has only minor symptoms). She’s in her 70s and I am scared what this will do to her.

My sister, brother and Rabbi couldn’t say “no, do not fly home” fast enough.

We will have a zoom funeral tomorrow. No shiva.
