The hanging-by-the-nipples torture scene in "The Last King of Scotland."

I recently saw a clip of an upcoming film Auschwitz. I keep thinking of it as I read this thread. Most of it is a group of naked Jews in the "showers" just after they realize what is really happening. Then they show the body of a child being incinerated. Awful.

The scene in Saving Private Ryan that freaks me the hell out is the mortally wounded kid screaming for his Mom on the battlefield as his guts are pouring out of him. Fucking shit, that is going to give me nightmares tonight just typing it.

Casino Royale. Bond is tied to that chair with the seat cut out. Naked.

Then there is that swinging torture device. Cringe

There was a very good small movie out this summer called Winter's Bone, about a teenage girl searching for her missing father, who put the house up as bail collateral and then went missing.

And I won't go into specifics for spoiler purposes, but the absolute key scene in the movie was utterly unwatchable. In the theater I closed my eyes and just listened, and that was hard enough.

Did anyone else see it and know what I'm talking about? Apologies for bringing up an example which requires so much vagueness, but I thought it was an interesting case of movie that I thought was very good, but which built to a scene I could not look at.

  11. Excruciating.

In "City of God," one child is forced to choose which of his friends he will shoot and kill, so he himself can live. Nothing worse than a crying boy with a loaded gun, and two crying friends that know one of them is about to get it, and a drug kingpin telling him to get on with it. Much of the graphic violence in that movie is perpetrated by and against children, but this in particular was nasty. Very tough to watch, but a hell of a story nonetheless.

There's a movie called "Once Around" with Richard Dreyfus and Holly Hunter, and it's not violent, but the whole movie is about a guy (Dreyfus) who basically is so over the top with everything that he drives everybody nuts, and Hunter somehow falls in love with him. There are a lot of cringe-inducing scenes, but the one where Danny Aiello (Hunter's father) is doing an annual dinner in memorial to his mother where he sings a lovely song and then Dreyfus' character gets up and insists on doing another memorial song to his own mother, and you want to climb through the screen and tackle him. A little bit lighter than some of these others. :)
