Is the MASH finale still the most watched episode of a show (at the original air time, that is)?

Yes it is, for some unknown reason.

Stupid fucking show lasted four times longer than the damn war did.

It'll never be topped. Those were the dying days of an era when most Americans watched the Big 3 networks, a little bit of PBS, the odd independent channel and pretty much nothing else.

I love MASH. I hardly ever catch an episode, but if I see it's on, I'll watch it.

True - anyone know how many viewers watched the Cheers and Seinfeld finales? I think that would be a good reference point to back up what you said.

Technically, the song "Suicide is Painless" was in the movie version of MASH.

I believe "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" and "Love is All Around" were written specifically for their beloved shows.

Are we just naming shows now? Because as much as that show takes me back to my childhood, the theme song is craptacular...

Lets say there was a Jay-walking bit on Leno and you played all of these different theme songs to a wide age range. Which ones would be most recognized? I would say Andy Griffith, Cheers, MASH, the Addams Family and the Brady Bunch would be the ones that topped the list.
