Plus, disagree on the news value. Almost 14,000 people ran the 5k alone, and total participation is something like 30,ooo. It's a huge event, and especially in this world where you distinguish yourself by covering big local events, it's a wise decision. And if you're generating revenue from it, so much the better. If you're a local newspaper journalist, advertising pays your bills.

Folios? Ahhh...there it is, in a font size and shade barely noticeable -- and nowhere on the cover: "An advertising section of the Times."
Couldn't have been more subtle, as sneaky as a Peyton Manning keeper. Certainly got me.
But now we know why the Times said this was a money-making victory over the Trib.
If the Times wanted us to know this was an advertorial, it would have been transparent and labeled it thusly across the bottom of the cover, in bold. This section labels and posts corrections on the sports cover, after all.
News value for 24 pages? Oh, good lord.

And 2.4 columns is almost exactly what the Trib gave it this time around. LOL

That's funny. I didn't see the Trib, but having managed several of these things in several cities, a photo, story and link to official results are plenty.
Curious how much space Times devoted to the event last year.
Maybe Boogie can fill us in...

Same as the Trib this year, for the most part. Without the financial incentives it's not a big deal. Aside from the runners who has any interest? I didn't even look at it.
