One of the chief handmaidens of the time (and, oh,
    what a time it WAS! . . . ) is shocked . . . SHOCKED!

More gratuitous (not to mention borderline-nonsensical)
logrolling for the I-Shill near the end of the notes, as well.

These trains remain FAR more reliable than the LIRR.

For some reason, I thought the headline said "NYPD's Poster Boy". I couldn't figure out who or what you meant.

Of course he's shocked! He didn't want to admit it, even in his book. Dave Kindred made a good point on the journalism board that there is nothing wrong with having some skepticism when it's warranted and if something doesn't "look" right.

And I agree with his end: weak.

Boom is off in search of a penalty box as we speak.

McGwire should stick to his night job, playing guitar for Metallica.

Reading that column if you did not know any better you would have never guessed that Lupica wrote this:

    Still waiting for Lupica's tears.

I don't like reading stories about giants from midgets.

What makes this more amusing is the money shot in ML's notes section, combining in-house backscratching with a charming after-the-fact "not mee" copout:

"You want to know how long it took this paper's I-team to report out McGwire's steroid use -- and steroid regimen -- in a credible way?
    "Years, that's how long.
"And the reason is because they don't think being sued for
    libel is that much fun."

    Trains, never late, ad nauseum.

So McGwire is unforgiven by Lupica?
