    A buddy of mine at a Scripps paper gave his bosses a proposal last week that he go to a 32-hour week. He has some other oars in the water and would prefer to have the extra time to dedicate to them.

    Their answer, of course, was no, because at this point they can't put out the paper with him gone one day a week. They'll be happy to take 3 percent and keep his five days. More valuable than taking 20 percent and losing a day of services.

    What a business.
