The Pipeline just delivered some news that Scripps papers are getting right now or about to get:

*Five percent pay cut for salaried employees
    *Three percent cut for hourly
    *Freezing pensions
    *Eliminating 401K match
    *Discontinuing tuition reimbursement

No further job cuts - yet.

    Lord.

That's why I thought furloughs were/are stupid. Why didn't Gannett just cut everybody's salary 5 percent like this?
This way they still fuck over the employee and get the work out of the employee.
At least with a furlough you get some time off; this is worse of course, but I figure management would be more forceful in doing something like simple 5 percent pay cuts instead of furloughs.

Might be announced tomorrow when Scripps has its quarterly earnings conference call.

An e-mail, I believe, has already gone out. What was mentioned in the original post is very accurate.

No furloughs. Pay cuts and other things.

I don't mean to be flip in tough times, honest. I really don't.
    But I'm hurt.

    Very accurate? Confirmed the post?
This IS The Pipeline we're talking about here.
    Yeesh.

If I was that accurate when I was a reporter, I'd still be a reporter.

ugh. five and three percent is pretty major ... these are folks getting maybe 1.5 percent annual raises in some places. have lots of friends in the company and it's sad to see. that said, my shop just lost one more to layoffs yesterday, so there really isn't a good option here.

In early December, Scripps honchos said when they put the Rocky Mountain News on the market that every one of its properties was turning a profit, except in Denver.

I'm hearing murmurs that there were layoffs at the Rocky, possibly including the managing editor.

It was the Post. Yes, including the ME, Gary Clark.
