More Impressive: 600 HR or 3000 hits

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by OklahomaSports, Aug 16, 2011.

  1. Is there anyone here who will try to argue 3,000 hits is more impressive?
If not, this thread is gonna be short and sweet.

Of course 3,000 hits is more impressive...just ask the New York media.

And when is Thome's documentary coming out on HBO?

    3,000 hits.

3,000 hits and 500 HR's is an argument. This isn't. They aren't on the same level.

    3,500 hits and 600 HR's is a great argument.

600 because even the great Jeter hasn't been able to do it

HBO Sports just doesn't get it.

They put on a documentary about Derek Jeter that no one watched, when they could have done the Thome documentary, which is what really what would have captured people's imaginations.

They really need to get some people over there who have their finger on the pulse of their sports viewers. More Jim Thome!

You're missing the point. The more rare and significant accomplishment was nearly ignored while Jeter's 3,000th hit was shoved down everybody's throat. We all know why. That doesn't mean we can't point it out.

No, really, I'm not missing the point. Jeter wasn't "shoved down everybody's throat." They do a special on Jeter and it gets watched. Subscribers to HBO, by and large, are OK with it. They do a special on Jim Thome and they might as well put it on Showtime 15. They chose the subject with more interest, because they are a subscription service trying to keep subscribers. They weren't making judgments about which accomplishment was greater. They were trying to get eyeballs.

You say that as if they had to do a special on one other the other. I didn't think either warranted it.

If you don't think the Jeter thing was shoved down people's throats, you really weren't paying attention.

Hey Bryant Gumbel mentioned Thome for 20 seconds in his closing of Real Sports this week.
