    Must be an MG thing. I came to work yesterday and had the same sort of flyer on my desk, asking reporters to come help cold call people to jump start subscriptions.

    But wouldn't a subscription pitch be the perfect annoying response when prep parents call?

    At my last stop, when we were one short in the sports department during basketball season my GM prevailed on me to take on one of the ad reps as a full-time sportswriter. (He figured it's easier to find a new ad rep than a good reporter, and how difficult could sports reporting be anyway?)

    The guy lasted a week before he went back to ad sales. I got a raise and a small bonus because of the stories the guy told about how hard covering sports really is. :D
