    From The Pipeline:

The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas (Stephens Media) is laying off 14 (five in the newsroom) and cutting pages

Eight pages of cuts per day, meant to add.

Interesting. A month ago they were looking for two new page designers and trumpeting how much space you'd have to work with. Said they wanted to move quickly on the sports design position.

Do these cuts also extend to Hawgs Illustrated?

Will the advertised positions remain unfilled and count toward the five cuts from the newsroom?

1 new designer was hired (he started Monday), the other position was filled in-house with a part-time to full-time move. Page cuts are primarily business section and merging of some features sections. Sports pages were not part of the cuts. Sports doesn't get page cuts unless the A section also gets cut as the two are "married" on the press.

Good thing papers never cut their A-section. Oh wait...

Stephens seems to be weathering the storm better than most because it was cheap before cheap was cool.

On the other hand, I've learned that when Las Vegas sneezes, the rest of the company catches a cold.
