Alas, outsourcing the printing wasn't quite the panacea.

as Fran Curci noted in another post on our profession, I think we are just starting to see the tip of the "copy-cat industry" iceberg.
i am afraid each week is going to continue to bring bad news to a lot of people we love in this profession.

A staff of 400? It was more than double that when I was let go in 2005.

  5. Nine reporters on the news side there.
    Nine.

  6. 400 editorial? Wow. What's the breakdown there editors/writers/desk. I'm stunned.

SG: That is the TOTAL number of Herald employees, not the editorial staff. Drivers, ad salesmen, everybody.

And they just ran an ad on craigslist this week looking for a 30-hr/wk features editor/writer.

  9. K, thanks for clarifying -- you said staff, I assumed. My bad.

I was trying a little black humor. Just seems like the Herald has been barebones forever.
