The greatest thing ever made for TV? Please.

Band of Brothers was a terrific, semi documentary mini-series.

But even trying to compare it to the creative genius of either The Wire or The Sopranos is ajoke.

And I'll take Monty Python, a show which is still as funny today as it was 30 years ago.

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
    who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
who could think you under the table.
    David Hume could out consume
    Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
who was just as sloshed as Schlegel.

There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya
'bout the raisin' of the wrist.
    Socrates himself was permanently pissed.

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
after half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away,
'alf a crate of whiskey every day!
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
and Hobbes was fond of his Dram.
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart:
    "I drink, therefore I am."

    Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker, but a bugger when he's pissed.

    Thank you imdb.com

2nd Lt. George Rice: Looks like you guys are going to be surrounded.
Richard Winters: We're paratroopers, Lieutenant, we're supposed to be surrounded.

Richard D. Winters: [real life interview with Winters where he quotes Mike Ranney on how he answered a question his grandson once asked him] I treasure my remark to a grandson who asked, "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" "No", I answered, "But I served in a company of heroes".

David Webster: [at a passing column of German prisoners] Hey, you! That's right, you stupid Kraut bastards. That's right. Say hello to Ford, and General fuckin' Motors. You stupid fascist pigs. Look at you. You have horses. What were you thinking? Dragging our asses half way around the world, interrupting our lives. For what, you ignorant, servile scum. What the fuck are we doing here?

Col. Sink: If they come by here y'all remember to smile for the camera. Got to keep the morale up for them folks back home.
    Richard Winters: Why?
Col. Sink: Damned if I know.

Frank Perconte: Kind of remind ya of Bastogne?
George Luz: Yeah, now that you mention it... Except, of course, there's no snow, we got warm grub in our bellies, and the trees aren't fuckin' exploding from Kraut artillery, but yeah... Frank... other than that, it's a lot like Bastogne.

I think we have an apples/oranges going here.

They are both great. It just depends if you want to laugh or remember the past.

I finally relented, and went with the Pythons. Here's my reasoning: Save the occasional eps on BBC TV or whathaveyou, MPFC is pretty damned hard to find on TV nowadays. Conversely, the History channel runs BoB marathons, like, six times a year. So while you SHOULD BUY Band of Brothers soon, Python's probably ultimately the best bet.

MPFC Is on Amazon for 45 bucks plus 2.98 shipping... save money and wait, or buy now and save... hmmmmm

Again, I can never make smart financial decisions. Though, to be fair, you're saving 2.02 by buying online, and not waiting is definitely worth that to me.

    Edited versions. Not the same.

I do see the logic though. The funny stuff you can watch over and over and it never seems to get old. It's like watching the Simpsons, South Park or The Office over and over.
