A more accurate comparison: Miley Cyrus = a more successful version of my own pre-teen Disney Channel heartthrob, Lizzie McGuire aka Hillary Duff.

Cyrus is not even in Jackson's league in terms of influence, longevity, mass appeal, hit records, etc. Ask any knowledgable music critic. Her first single has just begun getting consistant play on Top 40 radio only a few weeks ago. And she's not going to be 15 forever, so we'll see what becomes of her once she outgrows the Mouse and their marketing machine. Odds are she'll end up like McGuire (or better yet, her father) and kind of just fade away, marrying a Jonas Brother and appearing on the Surreal Life in seven years.

 

I put these on the other thread, but Kanye West sampled P.Y.T. from Thriller for 'Good Life', and Rihanna sampled Wanna Be Startin Something for 'Don't stop the music'.

Then there's the Prodigy, which sampled 'Thriller' for 'The Way It Is'.

I'm of the opinion that if someone samples someone elses music, they were probably influenced by it at some point.
