Fox Sports Radio reported that the L.A. Times says the Garnett-to-Lakers deal is going through.

Four-team deal which, among other things, has Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum going to the Pacers. Also involves the Celtics and T-Wolves first-round draft picks, 5 and 7.

    Stay on the alert.

Why would anyone make a deal to help the Lakers? So you're letting them keep Kobe, and giving them one of the 10 best players in the league? S-M-R-T.

The latest thing on the Times Web site says the four-way deal broke down, and it's now back to direct one-on-one talks between the Lakers and T-Wolves.

A more conspiratorial sort might have suspicions about the dark hand of David Stern at work if a deal like this goes through.

Looks like a franchise-reviver for the big glamour market Lakers, as well as a dream deal for the League getting KG and Kobe playing together in the LA spotlight, but it looks like a depressing bummer of a deal for the small market midwestern franchises in Indy and Minny, who'd both lose their only all-star with nothing special in return.

If it's the Lakers it'll happen. It always happens when the Lakers are involved.

Lemme think about that--Wilt, Kareem, McAdoo, Shaq, Malone, Payton. Veteran superstars who've not yet won a ring (although I guess Wilt & Kareem had 1) do historically seem to have a knack for getting themselves in one-sided trades that take them to LA, don't they? This Garnett deal would fit right in that pattern.

Bill Simmons would have had a stroke if this deal would have happened. It could have mired the Celts for another decade.

Sure wish AP would ship something on this so I can get a wire page put together.

Your paper doesn't subscribe to the McClatchy wire?
