Good old Jerome Holtzman. The original SABR geek.

When did it go to 191? I used to have the '78 Topps set with Record Setters, and there would be 2 record setters on each card. The Hack Wilson one said 190 RBI.

April always has been a good month for A-rod..he's hit .312 in April with only 212 strikeouts in 1173 plate appearances before this season.
He's had better Augusts and Mays, but in Sept./Oct. he's hit .278 with 246 strikeouts..
He HAS had an amazing month, but it reminds me of Sammy Sosa's big month where he hit a ton of homers a few years ago when the Cubs imploded come October...

Pete Guerrero in June '85: 15 homers.

Jack Clark in Oct. '85: 3-run homer that tore my heart out.

Just read an interesting stat the other day, from SABR member Trent McCotter.

Jeter's hit today gives him 50 hits in his last 52 games. If he gets a hit in his next four, he'll join Ed Delahanty (besides Dimaggio, of course) as the only known players to have hits in 54 of 56 games. (Several players have had hits in 53 of 56, but only Delahanty from June 5-Aug. 18, 1899, is known to have hits in 54 of 56.)

Also, through Wednesday, Jeter had hits in 91 of his last 100 games -- which is the best mark in the last 51 years. (Wade Boggs hit in 90 of 100 in 1985.) Dimaggio's best mark in 1941 was 89 hits in 100 games.

Basically, without those two hitless games (and all else remaining the same), Jeter would be a handful of games away from closing in on Dimaggio.

But out of the woodwork would've sprung the contrarians beating their congas and screaming Jeter's record came over the course of 2 seasons, thus negating the purity of said record. "APOSTROPHE!" they'd scream. "APOSTROPHE!"

    Yes. Fuck him.

He's the stubborn fool who has his mind made up about Joe Jackson, despite the multitude of new and often conflicting/contradictory evidence that has come out since 1988.

Vincent and Selig won't take a renewed look at Jackson's (or Weaver's) case for reinstatement because they don't want to piss on the legacy of Judge Landis, but it's also because of Holtzman's closed-minded views about the subject and his influence as "MLB's official historian."
