I'd like to think this is just a small group of especially whiny parents and kids. In my experience, every high school athlete I've ever met relished the chance to test themselves against the best. Maybe they got their ass kicked, maybe they rose up and pulled off an upset, but either way, they knew going in that they were going to be better for having had that opportunity.

Tiger Woods played four years of golf at Western High School in Anaheim, did he not?

Coincidentally, as it was mentioned earlier on this thread, wrestling is perhaps the only high school sport in which girls compete against boys on a fairly routine basis.

Though it would seem like the last sport you'd pick.

And I'm sure all of his opponents have told the story in bars many times over of how they played against him.

Everyone I've ever known who has played in high school against someone who is now (or was then) famous is forever tickled by the experience.

You don't remember the big New York Times expose when all the golfers from Katella High laid down their nine irons and refused to play against Western because he was so good??

Best to hear their lamentations in the pool than in the bedroom.

I was lapped twice by a future Olympian in a 3,200-meter run (yes, twice in the same race). It was probably the highlight of my track and field career.

It's so much better to win with the knowledge that the other team didn't field it's best lineup because they pity you.

At the time they played in high school, they had yet to develop into NFL-caliber players. Franklin has already won Olympic gold medals.
That said, as long as she meets the state association's eligibility requirements, there's no reason not to allow her to swim for her high school team.

Of all the crap I was exposed to in phys ed, I really liked field hockey. Did well at it too. Then I realized it is a girl's sport.
About the only time I regretted having a dick and balls.

I quickly snapped out of it.

It's great to have a dick and balls.
