Mississippi

    Since many others have done a good job describing the South in general, I'll try to touch on what makes Mississippi different from most of the South:

    If you are driving around rural parts of, say, Georgia, Alabama or Tennessee, the towns you go through just sort of peter out slowly. You'll still see a clump of houses here, the odd gas station/bait shop/tanning parlor there, an unexpected elementary school around the bend.

    In Mississippi, once you leave town, by God that's it. Don't expect to see another trace of human presence for the 30 miles it takes you to get to the next county seat.

    And I liked scrapple the one time I tried it.

    Without reading through 5 pages, is it safe to assume that somebody's already used the line "I thought this thread was going to be about the Bob Dylan song"
