It really seems like a fancy shell game that is only technically accurate. The contractors are like the new

When mentioning the oil company, it's stylebook to cap the 's,' i.e., ". . . fancy Shell game. . ."

US Military ended their involvement in Vietnam on August 15 1973. The Fall of Saigon occurred on April 30, 1975.

I predict that Iraq, as it is presently constituted, will fall before the 20 month mark set by the North Vietnamese. Either a puppet government of Iran will be installed or the country will disingrate like Yugoslavia with Iran lording over parts of the country and the remainder will be like some post- Apocalyptic movie

Well what did anyone think would happen? How may reports about how untrustworthy and scummy Maliki was it going to take? When a regime is so autocratic and ruthless, it tends to build up some resentment after a few decades. This was probably going to happen someday. We expedited that, yes. But at a certain point we simply can't afford to keep propping up governments and a faux sense of stability. If we had let it happen organically, with Saddam dying a more natural death of sorts, and then the transition going to hell, would we be less guilty over it? Or would we have still rushed in and done this same post-Saddam peace work? There's only so much you can control.

Well said. Let the UN pick up the pieces when the slaughter starts. Hopefully the US will be using unmarked helicopters for this final departure.

That means we own it forever? In charge of security for generations after?

No. That means we shouldn't have broken it.
