Nice to see O_T pine for the good old days.

The last time it was a top 10 city. It was run by ...

A Socialist! Frank Zeidler, mayor from 1948-1960. Milwaukee had predominantly Socialist mayors from 1910-1960.

Wasn't mean to be an full list, but yea, the brats are great. Beer? I can do without it.

But let's add Miss Katie's Diner, Goolsby's in the old days, Saz's, the Avalanche, the lakefront (goes w/out saying), the zoo/museum, Wolski's, some fab mexican eateries (though you'd better wear your bullet-proof vests these days), etc.

Tony's correct about the school system, though. Effin' joke.

The metro area has been in steady decay for a long time...

Just north of the city? War zone.

    Near south side? War zone.

    West/Northwest? War zone.

East of the city is doing OK. Of course that's Lake Michigan.

Oh Christ. Everything people explain here about Milwaukee urban decay is the same as Chicago urban decay, Indianapolis urban decay, Minneapolis urban decay, Cincinnati urban decay, Cleveland urban decay, etc. Name me one urban school system that isn't a "joke".

If I ever have the occasion to move back home, I'd live in Milwaukee County without hesitation. And there are plenty of sections of Milwaukee proper that are just fine too. So take your scaredy cat asses back to Mequon or Oconomowoc. ;)
