The big comeback has started. Everyone will want newspapers to feed a nostalgia craving.

Hearing whispers that Gannett will be shutting down small operations. After, you know, gutting their staffs and selling off the brick-and-mortar.
But, always remember - local journalism matters. Bless their hearts.

Oh, I'm sure it was done "in-house" to show off the company's "digital chops."

The crazy thing is GateHouse bought Gannett but thought so little of its own rep, they went with Gannett

I remember back in our "VIDEO WILL SAVE US!!!!!" days at Gannett, we were in some half-assed training and being lectured about how every story needs to have video of it, and here's how to shoot iPhone video, etc., and someone said, "So we are untrained iPhone video print journalists, and this is supposed to help us beat TV journalists, with their thousands of dollars of equipment and years of training?"

He was gone during the next wave of layoffs.

I remember the first useless half-assed meeting. We had a copy editor who had been there 40 years and the brass was telling him how great it was that all of us were going to become MoJos. He retired a short while later.

Oh fuck - forgot all about MoJos.

The retirement-age co-workers were the best, because they had their "DGAF" attitudes on full display in those meetings.
