Kentucky is one of just three SEC teams in the preseason honors list.
(Tennessee and Mississippi State are the other two) :)
and three others - Vandy, SCarolina, Ole Miss - also received votes

The polls are thought by many to be meaningless but the selection committee watches them throughout the season as an aid for putting together a rough draft of the bracket.

All in all, thank goodness there is a tourney at the end to decide which program actually gets the final trophy.

Hopefully, KU can do what the Tar Heels did a year ago -- start and finish the season No. 1. From what I've read so far -- and yes, I realize it might just be the Jayhawks' clever spin on the situation -- the debacle with the football team has made the basketball team more mature going into the season. Basically, it forced them to grow up and focus on the business ahead this season.

Bill Self claims they don't practice well right now, which I'm guessing means Self is looking for any and all means to keep the team motivated.

But as long as they have Joe Dooley on the bench, motivation should never be a problem. ;)

The preseason love Kentucky is getting is pretty nauseating. Sporting News projected them into the Final Four for crissakes.

It's Calipari, man! He can do anything!!

(The real question is, if they make the Final Four, how long do they have before it's vacated due to something that happens?)

The SEC has been stunningly bad the last two years. Florida falling off the map after back-to-back titles probably has a lot to do with that.

Kentucky plays UConn, Louisville and NC. We will find out very soon if they are for real.

Agreed. That's a very tough schedule. North Carolina will drop off a bit, but they're still going to be very tough. Michigan State is second in most polls... interesting.

And Arkansas fell off the map awhile ago. Not sure the Hogs will ever return to the lofty status they once held.

You'd think getting beat by 55 points or whatever it was in the NCAA final game would make more of an impression. But they did lift the spirits of downtrodden Detroit. ::) ::)

Yeah, because brawling with the football team shows they're so ready to grow up.

And you know, it usually takes a big brawl with the football team before a basketball team is truly ready to become a world-beater.

A not-so-clever spin, bordering on "Total Bullcrap."

Roy Williams' KU teams would have been too soft to fight with the football team. How's that for spin? ;D
