I am looking to relocate to the Midland, Michigan area, and am looking for a sports writer job in that area. Doesn't seem to be much available around there. Any thoughts?

Apply for a job where there are actually openings.

Junkie, thanks for a helpful response, unlike the other one. The reason I'm looking up there is because my fiancee is up there. I'm looking to move up with her, and soon.

I have nothing to add except a Bay City Roller factoid (hey, the rest of this thread is useless).
So before the Bay City Rollers decided on that name, they were called the Saxons. But they realized sounding like the Scottish dudes they were probably wouldn't sell in the States. So they threw a dart at a map and were going to go with that.
They had a problem, though, when the dart landed in Arkansas. A group of several Scottish guys who hadn't spent much time in the states knew the Arkansas Rollers (or whatever) would work. They threw it again.

Don't forget to look into the Flint Journal. It's not far from the Bay City-Saginaw-Midland triangle. And, it's probably a better paper than the three combined.

Mt. Pleasant is right down the road, which is a much better town than any mentioned above. Plus, it's home to one of Michigan's five D-I football schools, which is far better than covering teams in the GLIAC. I think the paper is the Morning Sun. Oh yeah, and there's gambling ...

I believe the Morning Sun is still family-owned. I have heard that they don't pay that well.

It is hard to find a paper that covers Michigan's MAC schools tho. All three of them are in Booth Newspaper cities. Being Booth (Newhouse), people don't tend to leave those jobs very frequently.
