Where was this 6 years ago when I got lost in a maze of rundown public housing about a half-mile from US Cellular Field? I could see the damn highway, but every street was a dead end. Saving grace was a cop parked on the street. He asked me what the hell I was doing in this neighborhood and kindly escorted me back to 94.

Another New York City rule of thumb. If you see a C-Town nearby, and it's the only supermarket for blocks, grow eyes in the back of your head.

If you wind up in the wrong part of town, just go into the local blues bar and regale them with tales of girls with big titties who kneed you in the nuts. Even a malaca like you can earn some street cred with a story like that.

This could also have the reverse effect where the adventuresome drive into bad 'hoods on purpose.

It would make for an interesting reality show like Storm
    Chasers. Ghetto Racers perhaps.

If you ask for directions to Legion Field, does it suggest a helicopter?

Eugene Robinson asked for directions to the Miami Herald and look what happened to him.

When will they finally invent a device that will allow us to forget the poor entirely? When!

It's already been invented. It's called a Republican.

I was once doing a story on college recruiting. I asked a coach if he ever got scared when he was going to the house of a recruit. He didn't want to answer and convinced me not to use that in the story.
