    Why did Bonds lie?

Once you do something that's not allowed, either by custom, morality, or law, that you cannot admit to, perjury and obstruction are not far behind.

You really can't separate the two.

Just as getting his dick sucked led Bill Clinton to perjury, and an illegal stock trade resulted in Martha Stewart serving time for lying to federal agents, taking steroids will lead to perjury (or other charges) if you are put in the position of having to answer questions about them under oath, or choose to lie about it to federal investigators.

Bonds, Armstrong, and others have all learned this lesson. But, others have yet to discover it.

Kind of hard to answer . . . since he wasn't even convicted of that, either.

BWahahaha! Yeah cause you wouldn't get blacklisted by teams if you did that.

Nope. That is all on you for pressuring yourself.

    Huh?

A player should not have to subject himself to potential criminal liability in order to keep his job. When you juice, you force a player into a choice between potentially facing criminal liability or losing his job. When you cork, you do not force competitors to choose between potential criminal liability and keeping their jobs/high salaries.

Nobody can "force" a player to cross that line.

This hasn't gone full-Devil yet, but it's getting there. I'm out.

No, but you force him to make a CHOICE between potentially failing at his job, or at least falling short of his potential, and facing a litany of negative consequences, including criminal liability and health risks. When it comes to corking, a player has a choice, as well, but only between poor job performance or a suspension from baseball for a few games. The PED choice is a starker one. Hence, a person - contrary to Deadspin's contention - can make a principled argument that Bonds's action was worse than Mantle's.

    This is a great point.

If a guy in court lies to cover his ass, then I can lie, too?

You're either a stand-up guy or you're not. Force yourself to do what's right.

You can't blame someone else if you choose to break rules or laws.
