Anybody have a problem with the Dan Wetzel column on Yahoo speculating that there may be mayhem in Richmond after the Vick sentence is read? I do.
Granted, views on the case have divided largely along racial lines, though I believe for different reasons. Many whites appalled by dog fighting, many Vick supporters angry that the legal system has brought a black man who has become a hero to many for his work on the field.
My biggest problem with the piece is that Wetzel isn't speculating who is going to win the Heisman or who is going to win the National League East. He is speculating that there will be a lot of anger over the verdict, even before it is read. Almost chumming the water for confrontation. If it happens that way, write whatever you want. But the piece left me feeling like the TV people did following the Rodney King verdict in the 90s when they camped out in South Central, seemingly baiting people to riot.
Maybe the article turns out to be accurate. But if nobody riots or gets out of hand, hasn't the piece already done its damage?

There is no verdict. He is guilty. He said so.
Sentencing is today and everyone knows he is going to jail.

And the Falcons appear on Monday night football the day Vick is sentenced. How weird is that?

Are dogs rioting in the street at the judge's leniency?

And he still has to face state charges.

Which will be plead out to concurrent time.

He'll probably be out around Labor Day 2009.

Look for Vick to be in a Raiders uniform 2010 training camp.
