Michael Vick out early?

Punt returner? Third-down back? A specialist who runs some of the Wildcat formation stuff? I think there's a place for someone with his skills (if they haven't totally eroded) in the NFL. But I doubt he'll be a fulltime QB again.

Then again, the Lions could use a QB.

. . . which has NOTHING to do with Michael Vick.

...On Sunday, Young watched Brett Favre outplay Kerry Collins as the Jets convincingly snapped Tennessee’s unbeaten streak, 34-13. Among other things, the loss may be a signal to Tennessee that as the water gets deeper, the Titans may need less of a manager at quarterback and more of a playmaker.

In an ideal world, this is where Young could step in. ...

Young’s benching is the end, for now at least, of new-age quarterbacks on the brink of redefining of the quarterback position. With Michael Vick behind bars, Young on the bench and Donovan McNabb morphed more or less into a pocket passer, the league’s quarterback pool has reverted to the statue-like signal-callers who hang tough in the pocket, protected by rules designed to keeping defensive linemen and linebackers at bay...

If I was a NFL team, the only way I would even consider him would be to use in a similar way to how Pittsburgh used Kordell during his rookie season.

No way does any team trust him as the starting QB. The Raiders have Russell, the Cowboys have Romo and even though Campbell isn't exactly a superstar in Washington, I don't see him being a fit there either.

Jerry signs Vick as Romo's backup, since right now he has none. Has a press conference and claims the deal is ``low risk,'' or a ``win-win.''

No one will sign Vick as a starter until he shows he can be trusted to stay out of trouble. Jerry won't be able to resist the publicity Vick will generate, nor the fantasy football aspect of having this guy on his team.

Shit, I'm sorry. racial lines were the least of my consideration when quickly punching out that post. Although going back and reading it I can see why it came off of like that. Too me the only real misnomer in that list would be Jamarcus Russell. McNabb double underlines my point. His style early on I think led to taking many more hits as he was exposed out of the pocket and helped lead to the injury problems he's had the last, what five, six years. Besides, the more he toned down the scrambling and running wild the more successful he became.

For a few years the fad was to get that super athlete at QB because of the excitement Vick brought. But as it has panned out there hasn't been a whole lot of success with that style of quarterback. There has been some, but it has been minimal. The big thing is to just gain that extra second or two by sliding out of the pocket or keeping the play alive as the pocket collapses as a last resort instead of it being a first or second instinct to run. That being said I would pay to watch Vick in the wild cat.

And Orton is having a hell of a year. If the Bears defence could figure out how to stop the pass they could be looking a lot better then they are.

I think Vick has done his time - seemed to be repentant - unlike some players still suiting up on Sundays and should be able to come back without having to sit out - have him on probation or something.

What Vick did wasn't racial. It was stupid. He's paying his debt to society. I say leave him alone.

I can't imagine what goes on inside the mind of a person responsible for inflicting the kind of pain and suffering those dogs went through. I think they should keep him locked up. With that said, I think any person, not just Vick, who carries out those kinds of acts should be locked up for a long time.

    Dear Roger Goodell:

Please be aware that when and if you ever allow Michael Vick to play, you can look forward to about 50,000 of these outside the stadium:

Oh, and those Campbell's Soup ads (or any product aimed at a 'family' audience) ??

    Kiss 'em goodbye.

Can you say "boycott"? I know you can.

So far, you've been doing a pretty good job bringing the hammer down on thugs. Keep it up.

Oh? And the dumbshit players quoted in the AP stories as supporting Vick?

Sock 'em with a quick $50,000 or so fine for "comments detrimental to the league."

Not enough to really seriously bother a multimillion-dollar athlete, but enough to make them think, "shit, maybe I better STFU about it. If it's $50,000 this time, it might be $500,000 next time."

boycotts also become a little easier to follow through on in a shitty economy.

If JJ pulls this stunt, it'd just be another piece of evidence as to why the 'Boys are fully of fail at the real Moments of Truth.
